Indoor Air Quality

Indoor Air Quality Virginia

Indoor air quality is vitally important. Experts say one of the top five environmental dangers is the air we breathe 90% of the time – in our homes. Pollen, dust, mold spores, fungi spores, tobacco smoke, dust mites, pet hair and pet dander contaminate indoor air. An alarming increase in asthma in children is being associated with the air they breathe at home.

Top five dangers in your ducts

  • Mold
  • House dust
  • Dust mites
  • Toxic fumes
  • Viruses and bacteria

Mold

The materials that insulate some ductwork can act as a sponge and absorb moisture from; humid air, condensation in the ducts, or from an undiscovered water leak. This is an ideal condition for the development of a mold colony. As the air circulates throughout the ductwork of your home or business, the air spreads these indoor air quality hazards. Mold and germs from moisture in ductwork is a serious health hazard for the elderly, infants, and people with respiratory illness.

House dust

House dust is the fiber from drapes, furniture and clothing. Organic debris, primarily skin cells make up another major component since humans shed at a rate of 700,000 cells per day. Pets shed dander. Humans and animal lose hair. All of this collects in ducts, only to be blown around again when the heating or cooling system turns on. Let us rid your ducts from allergenic dust. Your ducts – and your house will be cleaner. Your indoor air quality improves markedly.

Dust mites

Dust mites feed on the dead skin shed by humans and pets. They are microscopic, and live in the cleanest homes because it only takes is an ounce of dust to sustain 40,000 dust mites! Dust mites produce feces, and that is what blows around your home. Breathable dust mite feces can be eliminated with professional air duct cleaning.

Toxic fumes

Chemicals are leaching out of modern building materials such as paint and particle board, creating a very serious threat to indoor air quality. Your furniture, drapes and carpet also give off “gas” long after that new smell fades. Common household products contain chemicals. Such home indoor air contaminants collect in ducts and are re-circulated.

Viruses and bacteria
The same environment that is an excellent incubator for dust mites can harbor viruses and bacteria guests bring into your home and bacteria children bring home from school. Air-borne illnesses travel with the hot or cold air from your system. As you can imagine, the impact on indoor air quality is significant.

Does the refrigerant piping need to be changed if I install a new Air Conditioner?

All air conditioning equipment has product data documentation provided by the manufacturer indicating the approved refrigerant pipe sizes for the air conditioner you purchased. If the piping you currently have is a different size than the manufacturer’s standard, the piping will need to be changed. If the piping is the proper size, it can be reused.
